The G65 refrigerant pressure switch can develop a leak, venting all of the system refrigerant to the atmosphere and causing the A/C to stop working.
It's likely that all of these have been replaced by now, but if you have a compressor failure in a 2006 contact your local VW dealer to see if the recall might cover you. Some 2006 VWs and Audis received A/C compressors with faulty clutches that would seize up. It communicates over CANBUS with the ECU and a range of sensors to maintain the requested temperature in either one or two zones. The Climatronic system consists of a self-contained controller integrated into the dashboard module.
